పూర్వీకుల కథనం ప్రకారం పంటల తల్లిగా ప్రసిద్ధిగాంచిన శ్రీ ఎర్నిమాంబ అమ్మవారి చిత్రలోకి వెళ్తే విశాఖ నగరంలో నున్న ఏడుగురు అక్కా చెల్లెళ్లు అయిన అమ్మవార్లు ప్రజలను విశాఖ నగరం అనేక బ్బందులకు గురి చేస్తున్న రాక్షసులపై యుద్ధంనకు వెళ్లగా రాక్షసులను చంపుతున్న కోలదీ వారు పుట్టుకు రావడం వలన వారి శక్తి చాలక శ్రీ ఎర్నిమాంబ అమ్మవారి వద్దకు వెళ్ల మాకు సహకరించమని వచ్చి రారని చెబుతారు. అందుకు శ్రీ అమ్మవారు అలా నేను మీకు సహకరించాలంటే మీ అన్నదమ్ముడైన |తురాజు స్వామిని నా కిచ్చి వివాహం చేయాలని అమ్మవారు కోరారని అందకు వారు అంగీకరించి యుద్ధంనకు వెళ్లగా శ్రీ ఎర్నిమాంబ అమ్మవారు రాక్షసులను చంపుతున్న కొలదీ వారి యొక్క రక్తపు బొట్టు నేలకు చేరగానే అందునుండి మరలా రాక్షసులు పుట్టుకు రావడం సాగిందని, అప్పుడు అమ్మవారు ఎర్రి వికారం చెందిన తన యొక్క నోటిని ఆకాశం, భూమిలకు హద్దులుగా చేసి రక్తపు బొట్టులను కింద పడకుండా చేసి రాక్షసులను అంతమొందించారని ఆనాటి నుండి “పంటల తల్లికి” ఎర్నిమ్మ అమ్మవారు అని పేరు గాంచినట్లు చెబుతారు. పోతురాజు స్వామి మాత్రం తన అక్కచెల్లెలను వదిలిరావడం ఇష్టంలేక వారితోటే ఉండిపోయినట్లు ఒక కధ ప్రచారంలో ఉంది. ఇప్పటికీ శ్రీ అమ్మవారు పంటల తల్లిగా సంతానం లేనివారికి సంతానం కలిగించే తల్లిగా ప్రసిద్ధి గాంచారు.
