Tirumala Temple is closed due to Chandra Grahan on Oct 28 & 29

The Lord Tirumala Temple is closed for eight hours due to a partial Lunar eclipse on October 28. This eclipse is expected to occur between 1:05 a.m. and 2:22 a.m. during the night of October 28 and 29.

To accommodate the eclipse, the temple doors will be closed at 7:05 p.m. on October 28. They will reopen at 3:15 a.m. on October 29, after the necessary post-eclipse religious ceremonies, such as suddhi and punyavachanam, have been performed.

In light of the eclipse, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the organization responsible for the temple, has taken several steps. They have canceled the Sahasra Deelankara seva, a special ritual, and have suspended privileged darshan opportunities for old peoples and special citizens.

Additionally, all annadanam activities, which involve providing free meals to devotees, will be halted at various centers by 6:00 p.m. on October 28. These measures are taken as part of the temple’s tradition and belief in observing certain rituals and precautions during eclipses.

During this time, devotees are advised to plan their visit accordingly, as the temple will remain closed, and certain services and offerings will be temporarily suspended. These actions are in line with the Hindu almanac and temple customs to ensure the sanctity and purity of the religious practices and the well-being of the devotees.

More Information about Lord Balaji Tiruapti Temple

The Lord Venkateswara Temple complex in Tirumala, dating back to the 13th century, has seen continuous expansion, renovation, and rejuvenation over the centuries.

One remarkable feature of this sacred site is the Mahadwaram, commonly known as the Padi Kavali Maha Dwara or Outer Gopuram. This monumental structure stands as a magnificent example among all Hindu temple entrances in the country.

The gopuram is built on a quadrangular base, showcasing architectural characteristics from the later Chola period. It is adorned with numerous Tamil inscriptions from the 13th century, offering glimpses into the splendor of the rulers and the cultural richness of society during that era.
